Zabobrze is the largest and most populous district of Jelenia Góra, spread along the Bóbr river north of the centre. It is a modern, residential part of the city – and on the Szlak Jelonków trail it is represented by four deer of a very contemporary character.
The modern face of the city
Zabobrze was built mainly in the 1970s and 1980s as a large housing estate and today buzzes with everyday life: schools, a university, shopping centres and sports grounds. By the skatepark stands Skejtek with a skateboard, and in front of the Leroy Merlin store Leroyek – the guardian of DIY enthusiasts.
Learning and military history
Zabobrze is home to the Karkonosze University of Applied Sciences, on whose campus – the former grounds of the Higher Officers' School of Radio Engineering – stands Radiotechnik. By the Druh Youth Hostel keeps watch Harcerz, a popular stop for trips heading into the Karkonosze.
How to connect with the rest of the trail
