What to see in Cieplice

6 little deer of Szlak Jelonków

Coat of arms of Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój district

Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój is the spa heart of Jelenia Góra and one of the most interesting districts on the Szlak Jelonków trail. It is famous for hot springs known since the 13th century, the historic Schaffgotsch Palace and its spa parks – and among them stand six deer.

A spa town with a centuries-old tradition

Cieplice is one of the oldest spa towns in Central Europe. The Schaffgotsch family developed its healing hot springs over centuries, and to this day you can rest in the Spa Park and the Norwegian Park. In front of the Schaffgotsch Palace stands the duo Ciepliczanka i Zdrój – a healer with a jug and a little deer guarding the springs.

Culture, schools and the deer of Cieplice

Cieplice is home to the Animation Theatre, in front of which poses Lalkarz, and by the local schools stand Szóstek (Primary School No. 6 named after Włodzimierz Puchalski) and Norwidek (the Norwid high school). It is also the birthplace of the whole trail: at the School of Artistic Crafts, where all the figures were made, waits Rzemiosław. Antoś on his minibus shows you around the district too.

How to connect with the rest of the trail

From Cieplice it is a short way to Sobieszów with Chojnik Castle and to the highest-lying Jagniątków, and the other way to the city centre. You will see all the Cieplice deer on the map above.
